PROJECT
Landru

THE PROJECT
A story discovered through music
Frederik Neyrinck’s music drew us in through its vivid sonorities and unusual combinations of instruments. Following that music led us to Landru, a Belgian theatre production that brought his score together with the story of Henri Désiré Landru’s sensational trial.
THE MUSIC
An intimate, theatrical sound world
Neyrinck’s writing sets clarinet and bassoon alongside trumpet, trombone and two soprano voices. The result is an intimate but richly coloured sound world: music with a theatrical character all its own.
THE MUSIC
Landru: Suite
Frederik Neyrinck’s suite lets us encounter the music beyond the original theatre production. Its unusual instrumental colours and theatrical energy are part of what first drew Resonance to Landru—and to the possibility of telling its story anew.

THE PROJECT
A new telling
The original production, created by Het Banket, I SOLISTI and the Flemish Radio Choir, found drama in a courtroom story that still troubles and fascinates. Landru’s wit and evasions held the public’s attention; the disappearance of the women he was accused of killing gives the story its gravity.
For Resonance, the possibility lies in bringing this remarkable music and story to an English-speaking audience. We envisage a new telling in which live performance and theatre illuminate one another, while keeping the lives behind the notorious trial firmly in view.
MUSIC
Unusual colours
Clarinet and bassoon meet trumpet, trombone and two voices in Neyrinck’s vivid theatrical score.
STORY
Beyond the spectacle
The original Belgian production approaches Landru’s notorious story through invention, music and performance.
THEATRE
For a new audience
Resonance imagines this music and story speaking afresh to an English-speaking audience.
