THE RESONANCE ATLAS

Robin Holloway

Biography

Robin Holloway is a British composer whose extensive catalogue encompasses orchestral, vocal and chamber music. His instrumental writing includes works for conventional and unusual chamber combinations, from wind quintet to bassoon and string quartet.

Why this music interests us

Holloway's Five Temperaments, Op. 105, gives the wind quintet five sharply differentiated psychological states without assigning them explicit labels. His Quintet for Bassoon and String Quartet, Op. 140, and the unusually scored Autumn Music, Op. 123, offer further avenues for exploring his imaginative instrumental combinations. Together they make a strong case for closer repertoire investigation.
